The typical problems that cat pet owners mention when talking about their beloved feline companions are scratching the furniture or spraying in the house. Cat pheromone sprays are created to be diffused into the air so that the cat is more relaxed in their environment and less likely to participate in these destructive habits.
When a cat rubs up against a person or other animal, what they are really doing is depositing pheromones from the glands that are secreted in the cheek and chin area. This deposit is marking that person or objects as belonging to the cat so that other cats, whether there are any in the house or not, know and recognize the ownership. The other way cats mark their territory is through scratching or kneading, through which the cat is able to again mark its territory through glands in the feet.
A Calming Effect
Cat pheromone sprays, like their counterparts in dog pheromone sprays, have a calming effect on the animals. Cat pheromone sprays are usually diffused into the air by using a plug-in diffuser, which operates much like an air freshening device. At regular intervals, the diffuser sprays a fine mist of the pheromones into the air so that the cat’s environment is kept in a constant state of the calming pheromones.
Other cat pheromone sprays can be bought in a convenient spray bottle so that the car or cat carrier can be sprayed with the soothing pheromones about fifteen minutes before use so that the environment they are in continues to be one that they are used to, which makes the transportation much more enjoyable for the cat. Instead of finding the cat loudly meowing throughout the ride and panting in its stress, with the cat pheromone spray, the cat will be calmly riding along to the destination.
Studies
Studies of cats before and after using the cat pheromone spray have shown consistent results. Studies have shown that cat pheromone spray can be used in conjunction with other therapies that a pet owner might already be using with their cat. In addition, cats that have been regularly exposed to the cat pheromone spray have been shown to dramatically decrease their scratching and spraying behavior, and to increase grooming and eating. Unlike pheromone body sprays, which are specifically made to spray directly on a person’s body, cat pheromone sprays are used strictly in the cat’s environment to produce the calming effect.

Pheromone body sprays are relatively new products to come onto the market. Makers of these sprays claim that they help to increase sexual attraction in males and females when added to perfumes, aftershave, or even sprayed directly onto clothing.
Human beings produce pheromones just as other mammals and even insects around the world do. In the animal kingdom, pheromones serve to alert animals of the same species of various information about particular animals, such as what their rank is, what the outskirts of their territory markings are, what sex they are, whether they are in heat, and other various information that is important to their species and survival.
For instance, when dogs urinate in various locations, often to the dismay of their owners, they are marking their territory so that other dogs in the area know that they are claiming it as theirs. They are also sniffing the pheromones released by other dogs, sort of like a public message board, finding out who is in the neighborhood. Dog pheromone spray is used in the household to imitate a mother dog’s pheromones during the first five days after her puppies are born because they have a calming effect.
Human Attraction
In human beings, there are also pheromones that give off important information that we subconsciously use every day. Pheromone body sprays are designed to imitate the pheromones that attract males and females to each other sexually.
Scientists have shown that men who produce higher levels of the sex pheromones attract more women than men who have lower levels of the pheromone. It has also been shown that men with higher levels tend to be more successful overall in life. Pheromone body spray for men is designed to have both of these effects for the men that use them. For men who are older and have a harder time holding the same attraction to women, as well as younger men who just want to add more to their toolbox of attraction, pheromone body spray seems to help.
Pheromone body spray for women is designed for much the same purpose as for men. Especially for women who may have had a hysterectomy and no longer produce the amount of pheromones that they used to before the procedure, pheromone body spray can help. At present, pheromones for women are applied through their perfume, but researchers are seeking other ways to apply the pheromones that are even more potent.

Dog pheromone spray is the latest answer to overly anxious and fearful dogs, and the research has been overwhelmingly positive. Many dogs face fears that are unable to be assuaged by their conscientious pet owners. Try as the owner might, the dog continues to succumb to these fears and becomes a trembling, anxious, panting ball of fur that cannot see reason until the situation that cause the fear is removed.
One of the more common fears and anxieties that dogs face is that of thunder storms. Many dogs in the face of the storm will find the nearest hiding place and sit there, shaking and whining, panting as if they have run a marathon, until the storm is over. There is absolutely nothing that the pet owner can do to assuage that fear. Another common fear is that of being left alone in the house, which tends to lead to urination or defecation in the house, chewed up toys and furniture, and an overall mess. Again, the pet owner is not able to do anything about their dog’s fears.
The Answer
Dog pheromone spray is the answer to these common fears that dogs face. For dogs that live mainly in the house, a dog pheromone spray diffuser is the best answer to their issues. By spraying a fine mist at regular intervals into the house through a plug-in diffuser, the house is kept at a constant pheromone level which maintains the peace of mind for the dog.
Dog pheromone spray is based on the pheromones that a mother dog produces while lactating during the first five days after the puppies are born. This pheromone calms the puppies upon their entrance into a strange new world. In the same way, dog pheromone spray is designed to function just as the mother’s pheromones do and causes a calming affect for the dogs that are in the immediate vicinity.
For dogs that live outside of the home, the dog pheromone spray can be bought in a collar that diffuses the spray at regular intervals, just as the house diffuser does. That way, even a dog that lives outside most of the time can also live in a constant calming environment, which helps them face whatever situations they might encounter.
Unlike pheromone spray for women or men, dog pheromone spray does not stimulate sexual attraction; it merely produces a calming affect. In addition, although the dogs are calmer, they do not become lethargic or apathetic with the spray. On the contrary, they are more free to play and ‘be a dog’ with the spray because their irrational fears have been assuaged.

Pheromone spray for women is a growing phenomenon, especially as there are more women who have had to have a hysterectomy due to a variety of causes, such as cancer. Pheromone spray for women helps them to attract men again, since their bodies do not naturally put out the sexual pheromones that they once produced. The spray is also useful for women who do not produce much of the pheromone, but is beneficial too to the women who have normal levels of the pheromone but want to increase that natural attraction, without increasing sex drive or other side affects as other products tend to produce.
Pheromones
Women produce other pheromones that alert the world around them to certain information on a subconscious level. For instance, babies are able to recognize their mothers solely through sense of smell. Researchers performed a test in which the mother’s lingerie was waved above the baby’s head. The baby only turned his head toward the lingerie of his mother due to the pheromones that she produced that alerted him to who she was. Other pheromones produce the phenomenon in women where women who live together tend to have their menstrual cycle together, something the men of the house dread! All of these examples show how women release pheromones on a regular basis which are not necessarily tied to the sex pheromones but work in the same way.
Research
Pheromone spray for women has been found to increase the sexual attraction of the men who are their partners. Men who woke up in the morning next to women who used the pheromone spray for women were more likely to initiate sex than men who were next to women who did not use the spray. It was also shown that when men used a similar spray made to attract women, women were more attracted to them.
At present, the only way for women to apply the spray in through perfumes or in addition to their own perfume. It has been found that it does not matter what type of perfume is used in conjunction with the pheromone spray for women, the same results applied. Scientists are also working on other ways to apply the pheromone, such as directly onto clothing or into the air through diffusers in the environment, such as with appeasing pheromone sprays commonly used with pets, such as dogs, cats and horses. It is yet to be determined if pheromone spray for women would be as potent and successful in these formats.

Appeasing pheromone spray is used to help a variety of different animals, from dogs and cats to horses and even birds. The idea behind pheromone sprays is to take the pheromones already produced by the animals and use them to create a ’safe’ environment by smell for each creature. Animals naturally secrete pheromones on a daily basis which gives other animals of their species important information about them.
Dogs, cats and horses each have their own sets of issue to deal with in regards to anxiety and fear. Dogs tend to be afraid of being left on their own, whereas cats and horses do not seem to mind that as much. Dogs and horses tend to be afraid of thunderstorms, which in some, cause a blind fear where the animal reacts in a violent way to itself or to others based on that fear. Cats have anxiety when other animals, especially other cats are introduced into their environment, causing them to scratch and spray in order to show dominance.
Appeasing pheromone spray uses the pheromones produced by the mothers of these species when lactating. Early in motherhood, usually within the first week, the mother secretes soothing pheromones that help to calm their babies during their transition into the world from the womb. Scientists have harnessed this pheromone so that it can be emitted into the air and sprayed onto bedding and the inside of cars so that the animal is soothed not matter what the environment.
Research
Appeasing pheromone sprays have been tested most thoroughly on dogs and cats, but studies have also been done on horses and birds. One study with dogs was done at a shelter. The test group was exposed to the appeasing pheromone spray through a diffuser so that their entire environment was exposed. The control group was not exposed to the appeasing pheromone spray. The results showed that the test group was calmer overall than the control group. The test group was more open to human contact and its barking volume levels were decreased by twenty percent.
Research also shows that cats are calmer when a pheromone spray and diffuser are used in their environment. Cats that normally claw and spray reduced or stopped the habits completely once the pheromones were introduced into their environment. The same holds true for horses and birds that showed a reduced anxiety level in regard to formerly high stress situations, such as thunderstorms when appeasing pheromone spray was introduced.
